The Doctor Is In

Ferrari 458 Italia "White Horse"

It’s a safe bet that many of you reading this now are quite familiar with DoctaM3. He possesses a brilliant collection of significant supercars and he uses them! Now I don’t know about most of you, but that delights the hell out of me. It’s a joy seeing cars like his out in traffic mixing it up with everyday traffic. You just don’t get to see them often enough. For that reason, I thought I would do a quick feature on one of his cars. I was not sure which one would show this past Saturday, but then that’s half the fun. As luck would have it, the Ferrari 458 Italia was the mount of choice.

I love these cars. I have a broad appreciation for almost all cars, but the 458 is a beautifully designed modern Ferrari. The color choice here is well suited to the car and the black roof gives it an even lower look and serves the engine well as it stands out nicely framed in black. The body lines are subtly apparent and your eyes can pick up all the key details as you look the car over. There is great harmony between the flowing curves and creases that give the car an undoubtedly sensuous look while still maintaining a hint of aggression.

The interior is just fantastic and the fact that you can trot right onto the track in this is just silly. I’ve been out in one at speed and it’s almost comical to be in a car that capable and still have all the finest amenities surrounding you as you go to war. My mind just thinks you should have less, but apparently you CAN have your cake and eat it too. I won’t complain.

From top to bottom it is a well packaged and very useful piece of art. It even has a surprisingly large compartment that I dare say you could nearly fit a body in. A bit of shock as you get no sense of its capacity, let alone its existence, when viewing the car from the outside. Just a wonderful standout car!

If fate is kind to me, I will hopefully have the opportunity to feature some of his other cars. In the meantime, enjoy this one and please follow the link to a few more shots from the day.

BMW M3 Photo Shoot

First off, what a marvelous car! Wonderful lines sporting the perfect color and dressed in just the right amount of carbon fiber. I love it! It’s the kind of car you want to drive all day with no particular destination in mind and you can do so in relative anonymity. Anything goes with this car from track to street. It’s just perfect and true to its intended purpose of providing the owner with the ultimate driving machine.

Add to that, stunning good looks. The lines on this BMW M3 fascinate me and stand out in any light. It has the perfect balance of curves and creases. As a result, I was happy to have been asked to photograph it.

We started off shooting the car at the track to get some nice panning shots but also to potentially capture some sideways action. The later did not occur as nobody wants to get kicked off the track. It’s not even worth trying to fake it being accidental. Besides, the next thing you know, you’ve had an off track agricultural excursion resulting in unintentionally mating with the armco. No one wins in that situation and then I have to act like I have no idea what’s going on. I’m not a good actor. Anyway, we have an opportunity to do it with a blessing very soon so all good things come to pass eventually.

So, with a good amount of stills and action shots captured, we set about planning the next few shoot locations. I have quite a few I like for fall and the roads tend to be traveled infrequently at most times of the year. Oh, except when you’re doing a shoot and then the one you are counting on hosts a charity walk and shuts down half the park. The backup worked perfectly, though, so no harm. And actually, that second choice location was better. Great fall color and the car looked right at home in the natural setting.

It gave us a great opportunity to demonstrate the cars leaf removal abilities as well. Always nice to lend a hand to the local community when you blow through town and I feel certain, they appreciated it greatly.

We made a few more stops later in the day, but have plans for additional shoots including a very nice out of the ordinary location that should provide a suitable amount of danger. Should be some good fun coming up quite soon. You can find the full gallery from this shoot here and I will be adding to it as we do more shoots with this car. Keep checking back as there will be a lovely Fly Yellow 308 gracing this page soon!

Ferrari 430 Scuderia Photo Shoot

A few months back I was shooting a track day at the newly improved Pitt Race in Beaver Pennsylvania. While there, I struck up a conversation with the owner of a beautiful Ferrari 430 Scuderia. He was running the car just the way it had been intended and was very open to taking the car to a variety of places you normally wouldn’t want to for a shoot. We scheduled some days and set to capturing his car in some rather unique settings outside just the track. Though the track was much fun.

We headed into town a few days later after I had found some great back alleys and a bit of urban decay. The settings were wonderful and for the first time, I was not running about, removing trash and other items from the foreground and background. This was one time I wanted all the crap in the shot. Well except for the smell. The first location did have an occasional odor that was less than pleasant depending upon the breeze. Thankfully, cameras don’t capture that element, yet. I’m sure at some point in time it will be someones brilliant idea to have a scented spray emanate from your monitor and assault your senses with a smell that correlates to the image you just looked at. That could be good and very very bad.

Back on topic, we got some great shots in with perfect light and gradually moved our way up and down the truncated and rather narrow alley. It really is a great spot, but man is it tight. We had to remove the car completely to get turned around for different angles. Still worth the work. The car looked stunning here.

Next stop, mostly unused railroad tracks and rusted structures. Oh, and piles of huge tires. Must have huge tires.

This was one spot that the car managed to attract much attention from people in traffic as well as in the surrounding buildings. It’s nice to be noticed and it’s rather hard no to be in a brilliant red Ferrari. One gent driving by was even nice enough to display his sense of humor by acting as though he was going to crash into the car. Sooooo unbelievably hilarious. We never laughed so hard as he jerked the wheel toward the Ferrari and then back at the last second while flashing the international symbol for, just kidding. What a funny moment.

With that behind us, we did a bit of off-roading which you can see in the gallery posted here. We then moved into town and finished the shoot in the plaza of PPG. A most spectacular setting to end the shoot if I do say so myself. Wonderful reflections and architectural elements surrounded us. As did the police, but they came with the property and we had permission to shoot that day.
